I’ve combined lived experience together with a background as a tertiary-trained health professional to produce two mindfulness-based children’s storybooks, a storybook app, online ecourses, and live workshops, all of which ultimately seek to…
help people create lasting change in their inner landscapes so that they can finally find happiness and peace in their outer world.
My clients tell me my skills lie in helping them find their unique, creative talents to inject inspiration into their lives. In the mix, I open a window on their spiritual resourcefulness, show them how to use transformative psychological tools, and I crack the nut and motivate their healthy selves into action.
On the other hand, I’m not so hot at baking, growing broccoli, or being excessively punctual (matey, I’m a left-handed, Piscean, Irish-originating Hogan.. you try and fight those odds;)
I believe we needed to think creatively if we want to move beyond surviving to learn how to thrive in todays wild and funky world.
By wild I mean ‘busy’. And funky? Stressful.
Hence I’ve coined the term Creative Coping.
Why am I so passionate about Creative Coping?
Because I believe many of us hold an inherent belief that we’re not really capable of changing. And yet this belief flies in the face of modern science. Our brain’s are malleable and changeable. We can teach ourselves new tricks. We can absolutely find and action tangible tools that helps us draw breath, keep our cool with our loved ones, excel in the workplace, and find our spark again.
I’m also passionate about Creative Coping because I believe we need to claim our mortality in this lifetime.
Life is too precious to get around feeling hung-up or held-back by unhelpful emotions and habits.
Not that I’m proposing everyday should look and feel like fairy floss and dandy fields … because, umm.. sh*t happens, yah? But what I am saying and teaching is that with concrete tools, we can nourish into existence an immoveable centre of balance within ourselves that supports us through difficult times, and buoys us to unimaginable heights during the times we’re kicking goals.
I believe you need to nourish your whole self if you’re serious about loving life and thriving in todays world. That includes your emotional energy, your spirituality and your mental endurance.
I also believe that you don’t need to do it alone. Intelligent women are suckers for this. We think we-gotta-do-it-all-ourselves. I should be able to get a handle on this. I know I can get there… I’ve just got to start. What we fail to acknowledge is… we learn best when we have social contact and a mentor to guide us along the path. This isn’t a failure on our behalves. This is an inherent trait of being human. Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

Let me get one thing clear though.
I’m no holier-than-though-sage who-has-their-sh*t-together-every-minute-of-the-hour. Far from it. I’m an as real as you person, having a crack at living wholly and earnestly on this earthly plane. What I can say with conviction though, is that my whole life completely changed for the far-and-away-better when I implemented Creative Coping skills into my own life. *My life is unrecognisable to where I was 6 short years ago.
My commitment to you is to continually building my repertoire of skills and to share with you what I discover (and live!) as we roll forward on this journey together. I can’t do that without claiming my own humanity and failings at times, while sharing the victories and the revised how-tos as I go.
I’m not so bogged down in being poised and uber-zen. What I am focused on is being real and authentic. I write in a flurry at times – so you’ll occasionally find typos. I’m somewhat of a swear-bear, so, yep, I throw a few expletives in every now and then too (sometimes no other word will do). And if you’re wanting political correctness, Harvard school grammar and poised semantics… this may not be your territory. That’s cool. Different boats, different folks.
What I do care about is my commitment to you getting the results you’re looking for, while making the journey real, sometimes gritty, and fun.
*Receiving a universal kick-up-the-bum
has been my roundabout approach to living and teaching Creative Coping skills. I needed to scratch about in a toolbox as large as the sea to find the goodies. I’m talking the kind of tools that sent lightening-bolt reverberations through my being and breathed calm into my soul. I needed to find a new way of being, as my reliance on facts, the seen, the tangible, had failed.
My body had manifested a pituitary tumour (notice me! She keened). My mind had risen like a beast (you’re not good enough! She snarled). My heart had shattered over lost love and life (I’m not going to make it. She believed).
But the universe was working as teacher, not foe.
Reaching through the grief, I searched intuitively for the little girl that was. The one born with bright eyes and bold mind. The one that stood square against the world, hands on hip, unquestioning of the spark of the divine inside her.
I had to put away the cerebral, and let my Spirit do the talking for awhile.
I had to give harried a back seat, and sit in the company of being. I had to finally, finally, let Creativity inside me, out, out, up. I believe in the journey I walked. It is why I exist today. It is why I have breathed life into my creations that I sincerely believe will help those walking alongside me. Just as I know their own journeys and learnings can help me and those I love.
I have done the university thing. I worked for 10 years in the health arena as an Occupational Therapist. I moved around a bit, before settling in mental health, learning and teaching the scientific evidence based parts to mental and emotional recovery. I was moved by the courage of families, devastated by the cruelty of mankind, uplifted by the compassion of the human soul, and always, always humbled by the potential of a single child.
These days I combine cerebral with Spirit, intuition with evidence, hope with how.
Turning to the written word has formed part of my own journey to coping… creatively;)
I am fierce about family and closest friends. They are the best parts of me.
I am curious mix of romantic and pragmatic. My words are often sliced with rainbow colours, but grit, tenacity, and generous doses of humour are equal parts of my makeup.
I have been foot solider to emotion in the past. I took up arms with words, striking with irony, jabbing with derision. Defending with intellect rather than the alternative. To feel. Threatening to ambush me lurked anger, frustration, and deep, abiding sadness. Thank God I found that oceanic toolbox.
I am lover of the Outside. It is where I feel most safe, most at ease. I can rake my hand through dust and sand. I can wash away angst with salt. I can sigh with eagles as they ride their invisible waves. I find it hard to be and hear me when too long cloistered by noisy traffic jams and sun sucking concrete.
I secretly hope to build an earthship one day.
I am am an admirer of fine red wine.
I am a left handed Piscean, living precariously on the Arian cusp. Makes for an interesting ride, full of dreams, romance, fire and drive.
Words are my muse and my temptress. I lay them down for now, for my ‘about’ stretches on too long.
